Measurement 5 (QSB 3115)

Objectives:
1) This subject allows me to study and explore the importance of preparation of Tender Document and the importance of the ability to work effectively with group mates to complete the assignments.
2) This subject provides me a chance to investigate and explore subject knowledge on the principles of measurement of various  elements.
3) This subject enables me to develop the skill of making decision and management skills related to Quantity Surveying profession in the preparation of Bills of Quantities.

Learning Outcome:
Through the study of this subject,
1) I am able to identify the items measurable for cold water and sanitary plumbing, electrical installation and M&E works and civil engineering works.
2) I am able to differentiate and explain the difference in writing up descriptions in accordance to design changes of cold water and sanitary plumbing, electrical installation and M&E works and civil engineering works.
3) I am able to evaluate the relationship between specifications, drawings and Bill of Quantities in Tender Documents for cold water and sanitary plumbing, electrical installation and M&E works and civil engineering works.
4) I am able to prepare the measurement for cold water sanitary plumbing, electrical installation and M&E works and civil engineering works in accordance to Standard Method of Measurement (SMM2) and Malaysian Civil Engineering Standard Method of Measurement (MYCESMM).
5) I am able to understand and carry out the preparation of Bills of Quantities for cold water and sanitary plumbing, electrical installation and M&E works and civil engineering works.

Assignment:


Brief:

We are going to form a group which consists of 5 persons and prepare a complete measurement including the Bills of Quantities of the Electrical Works for the 2 storey bungalow house covering:
a) Sub-main cable from the TNB meter to the Distribution Board.
b) Final sub-circuits for the various lighting, fan & AC points and socket outlets.
c) Electrical accessories such as switches, socket outlets.
d) Any other related electrical works not included in the above.


Objective:

1) To extend and refine skills relating to the measurement and description of building works.
2) To develop an awareness of the nature, content, and significance of tendering and contractual documents.
3) To have sufficient knowledge and understanding of the Standard Method of Measurement in taking–off quantities.
4) To develop an understanding of the principles of measurement in preparing the Bills of  Quantities and Specification writing.

Learning Outcome:

1) Recognize the items measurable for electrical installation works.
2) Explain and interpret clauses in the SMM2  for the various trades in relation to the above works. 
3) Demonstrate a systematic and orderly mind and be able to visualize the drawings and details given.
4) Evaluate the relationship between Specifications , Drawings and Bills of Quantities
5) Produce measurement for Electrical Installation Works in accordance to SMM 2
6) Generate a conceptual understanding of and the ability to competently carry out the preparation of the Bills of Quantities for the above mentioned works.

Mid-Term Test

Objective:
1) To enable us to understand the topic of Geotechnical Works (Reinforced Earth Wall).
2) To test how far we understand on the topic which had been taught.
3) To enable us to investigate the measurement of Geotechnical Works.

Learning Outcome
1) I will be able to know how much I understand the topic that has been taught by the lecturer.
2) will be able to know my weakness and can still find a solution to overcome before the final
examination come.
3) will be able to know how far I had progress.
4) will be able to know whether I can finish the question within the required time.
